IN THIS LESSON

Conditioning restores softness and manageability after cleansing, but its real purpose is preparation. It reveals how your hair responds to moisture and that response is unique to your strand structure.

Hair texture, density, and porosity determine how water and conditioners interact with the hair shaft. Curly, coily, and kinky hair often appears dry not because it lacks moisture, but because moisture escapes more easily along bends and curves. Straighter textures may retain moisture longer but can accumulate buildup faster at the scalp. Density affects how products distribute, while strand thickness influences how much weight the hair can handle before becoming limp or brittle.

Porosity is the true eye opener. Low-porosity hair resists moisture and benefits from lighter formulas and warmth to help products absorb. High porosity hair absorbs moisture quickly but loses it just as fast, requiring richer conditioning and proper sealing. Medium-porosity hair often feels balanced and responds well to consistency rather than excess.

Hair care becomes healthier when routines are based on how hair behaves not trends, not labels, and not someone else’s results. When you understand your hair type, conditioning stops being guesswork and starts becoming strategy.
